Description:
Original flyer announcing a performance by Throbbing Gristle at the London Film-Makers' Co-op, London, 6th July (1978). B/w. 29.7x21cm.

Illustrated with a large image of a TV monitor screening vintage footage of two scantily clad women dancing onstage in front of a smartly dressed audience. Slight creasing to lower right corner; three old, faint horizontal folds; o/w Very Good plus.  The benefit for the LFMC also featured a screening of Antony Balch's film, 'Towers Open Fire'. TG began their set by playing the soundtrack to the COUM film, 'After Cease to Exist', while remaining hidden behind mirrored panels. The gig became notorious for the fracas that broke out in the audience after they emerged, involving Fred and Judy Vermorel and members of The Slits and The Raincoats ("completely drunk and pilled out of their heads", according to Genesis P-Orridge, recalling the event for the September 1979 issue of Slash).  John Gill recorded his impressions for Sounds (15th July, 1978): "Waves of stomach-churning noise, intestinal gurgles of oscillator and phased percussive synthesiser rhythm filled the room. Adjectives of violence for the music of violence. It took on the atmosphere of some Fluxus 'happening' rather than the usual music recital… But even the group seemed loath to accept the situation their music forced the audience into. As the room began to resemble a furniture warehouse being atttacked by poltergeists, they stopped playing with one final disgusted scream of white noise. Stunning but dangerous music" (reprinted in Ford 8.14).
