Notes
"In the summer of '88 I realized a fantasy of making a giant long stringed instrument with lots of players. I wanted to take "full" advantage of the opportunity I've had of a whole floor of an office building to work in. I commissioned Stephen Wise, a harp builder, to make a second resonator. The room was 145 feet long and two resonators would hold 90 strings. I invited three artists, Jane Botkin, Metis Policano and Daniele Massie, to rehearse with me on a regular basis for the next several months. I had been wanting a way to make staggered transitions between the parts and still be able to keep track of where each of us is in the score. I developed a system of proportionate colored boxes corresponding to colored lines on the floor. A player moves out to a designated colored line, which, in effect, denotes a specific period of time."
