NOX

Alias:
Gender: Male
Country: France
Description:
A French band exploring the domains of the industrial avant-garde of rock music and industrial rock, it was started in 1982 by Ce?cile BABIOLE, Gerome NOX, Laurent PERRIER, and a guitarist ARNO (he quit in 1984). In the late 1980s they were joined by Laurent PERNICE. Their expressive composi- tions relied on trancey vocals and a tribally motorik rhythm section of guitars and drums, enhanced with collages on tapes, cacophony of analogue synthesizers or a sampler, synthetics rhythms from a drum machine, and improvised lines of a trumpet or trombone. The early live performances, when the band shared the stage with the likes of SADW, E.N., were remarkably dynamic and hypnotic, and complemented with screenings of experimental film etudes by Cecile BABIOLE. After disbanding in 1994, Gerome NOX worked as a music producer and occasionally performed under his own name or as G-NOX. PERRIER also operated on a solo basis, under the CAPE FEAR, HEAL, and ZONK’T moni- kers, also running the ODD SIZE music label from 1987 to 1997. BABIOLE went on to become an acclaimed avant-garde film director and audiovisual installation artist, while PERNICE still pursues a solo career as a sound artist within the genre of experimental post-industrial.
