FILE MEGAZINE General Idea (AA Bronson, Felix Partz, and Jorge Zontal) Art-Official Inc, Toronto, 1972-1989

Vol.1 #1 April 1972 MR PEANUT' ISSUE
30pp, produced in an edition of 1500 copies only, most of which were sent out free by the editors to an international maillist of progressive artists.
Its covers were produced at Coach House Press on coated paper rather than cardstock, making it not only the most limited single issue but also the most fragile.
It originally included a laid-in separately-published 8pp pamphlet by Dana Atchley entitled Ace Space Co, On the Road: 1971-72 (280 x 215 mm)
Stamped inside upper cover: "Something by Mouth" (as issued)

Vol.1 #2/3 May/June 1972 'MANIPULATING THE SELF' ISSUE 2  64pp,
covers printed at Coach House on heavier cardstock; an edition of 3000 copies, with Image Bank colour-bar insert (8 variants)

Vol 1 #4 Dec 1972;

Vol 2 #1/2 April/May 1973  SPECIAL DOUBLE' ISSUE 4  64pp (postcards still bound in);

Vol 2 #3 Sept 1973  'SPECIAL PARIS' ISSUE 5  64pp + 4pp centrefold cover; outer cover titled IFEL, subtitled within, "for those to whom living is a fine art" & central cover dated 1 January 1984.
First issue from 241 Yonge, the old Art Metropole building (previously 87 Yonge)

Vol 2 #4 Dec 1973 (Mondo Nudo);

Vol 2 #5 Feb 1974 (Annual Artist s Directory with covers detached and spine very chipped);

Vol 3 #1Autumn 1975 (Glamour Issue); 80pp. Now sporting the ISSN 0315-2456, with an Art Metropole ad on lower cover (the AM display & reading room formally opened 26 October 1974). This is the final issue bearing the original LIFE Magazine knockoff logo (following the LIFE lawsuit).
Including the very scarce original 8pp unbound tabloid insert produced at Image Bank, Vancouver, titled 'ART'S BIRTHDAY'; a souvenir of the Decca-Dance & Mail Art Awards Ceremony held in the ballroom of the former Elk's Lodge in Hollywood, 2 February 1974

Vol 3 #1 Fall 1975 GLAMOUR' ISSUE 8 (No 3:1, fall 1975) 80pp. The special 'multiple' variant with the CN Tower 'High Profile' logo screened by the editors onto the upper cover, produced in a ballpark edition of 200 for free distribution at General Idea's "10th anniversary" High Profile performance atop the tower, 13 October 1978. The 3rd & 4th leaves in this copy bear production foldovers which left them untrimmed at lower tip (preserving the original size of the sheet). A nice copy with minor stain to upper cover.
